TEMPE, Ariz. - The University of Oklahoma men's golf team shot a team score of 571 (-5) on Friday to stand in 12th place after two rounds at the ASU Thunderbird/SAVANE Invitational at Karsten Golf Course (Par-72, 7.027 yards). The Sooners improved on a first-round 290 with a second-round score of 281. The University of Texas currently leads the tournament with a 547 (-29).
"Our team had some difficulty adjusting to the conditions out on the golf course today," said Oklahoma Head Coach Jim Ragan. "The weather conditions were not what we're accustomed to in Oklahoma but I was pleased with how our guys responded in the second round and hopefully we can continue to improve in tomorrow's round."
Leading the way for the Sooners was senior Cody Freeman (Arnett, Okla.), who fired rounds of 70 and a season-low 68 to finish out the day tied for eighth with a 138 (-6). Freeman is coming off a ninth-place finish at the Morris Williams Intercollegiate.
Junior Matt Cohn (La Jolla, Calif.) carded a total of 143 (-1) and is currently tied for 33rd. Cohn's second-round 69 was also a season-low. One shot behind Cohn is junior John Kidwell (Dallas, Texas) who shot rounds of 71 and 73 and is tied for 39th with seven other golfers.
Sophomore Martin Flores (Mansfield, Texas) is tied for 60th after carding a combined score of 147 (+3) and sophomore Blake Martin (Stigler, Okla.) rebounded nicely after a first-round 78 to shoot even-par in the second round and is tied for 76th.
The Sooners will begin their final 18 holes of golf at 7 a.m. Saturday morning.
