OU Men's Golfers In Second After Day One At Morris Williams

AUSTIN, Texas - The University of Oklahoma men's golf team shot a first-round score of 283 (+5) at the Austin Country Club (par-72, 6,906 yards) to stand in second place Monday at the Morris Williams Intercollegiate. Monday's play was scheduled for 36 holes, but the second round was suspended due to darkness at approximately 6:30 p.m. The golfers had between two to five holes remaining in their round when play was stopped. On the leaderboard, OU is currently four strokes behind tournament leader BYU.

Leading the way for the Sooners was junior Matt Cohn (La Jolla, Calif.) who finished the first round tied for 10th. Cohn, making his first start of the season, shot an even-par 72 and is also four shots out of the lead held by SMU's Brock Mulder. Cohn tied for ninth last year in Austin.

One shot behind Cohn were junior John Kidwell (Dallas, Texas) and sophomore Martin Flores (Mansfield, Texas), who are in a nine-way tie for 15th place. Senior Cody Freeman (Arnett, Okla.) shot a first-round 75 and is tied for 28th, while senior J.D. Robertson (Little Rock, Ark.) rounded out the scoring for the Sooners with an 80 and is tied for 63rd.

Second-round play is slated to resume on Tuesday at 8:30 a.m and final-round action will begin at 10 a.m.
