COLLEGE STATION, Texas - The No. 18 Oklahoma Sooners (16-7, 4-2 Big 12) fell by a score of 11-2 at the hands of No. 17 Texas A&M (20-10, 7-5 Big 12) on Sunday. A&M stormed out to an 9-0 lead and cruised to the crucial conference win. Evan Greusel (2-1) took the loss for OU, while Khalid Ballouli (4-1) picked up the win for the Aggies after pitching seven innings, striking out seven and allowing four hits and an earned run.
As has been the case in each of the first two games of this series, A&M scored in the first inning and then added seven runs on eight hits in the second to build an 8-0 lead. A&M first baseman Travis Wong hit a grand slam and the first seven Aggie batters all scored in the inning. Texas A&M added another run in the third to go up 9-0.
Charlie Frasier belted his fifth home run of the season in the fifth inning, a solo shot to left center field. The Sooners notched another run in the eigth, as Reggie Willits walked and advanced to third on Matt Arkison's double to the gap in right center field. Eddie Cornejo then singled to bring home Willits and close the gap to 9-2, but A&M added two runs in the eighth to round out the scoring.
Jarod McAuliff pitched admirably out of the bullpen, going five innings and third and allowing two unearned runs on five hits, while striking out two. Denver Kitch stole his team-high 17th base of the season in today's contest.
Attendance for today's ballgame at Olsen Field was 4,498. Oklahoma now returns home to face No. 11 Alabama at the SBC Bricktown Ballpark in Oklahoma City on Tues., March 26, and will host No. 9 Baylor in a three-game series, March 29-31.
