NORMAN, Okla. - Men's gymnastics assistant coach Guard Young scored 9.225 on the floor excercise but failed to qualify for the event finals at the World Gymnastics Championships in Decrebon, Hungary. Young finished 13th, which left him outside of the top eight that qualified for the finals.

"It is always an honor to represent the United States," said Young. "It was a tremendous thrill to be amongst the greatest gymnasts in the world. It was extremely special."

Paul Hamm was the only American to score higher than Young on the floor excercise. Hamm finished fourth in the event finals with a score of 9.625.

Young scored a 9.387 in the qualifying round on Thursday, good enough for 15th overall and spot among the 16 semifinalist.

In December, Young will compete with the U.S. contingent in the Chunichi Cup.
