NORMAN, Okla. - The Nebraska Cornhuskers played like the fifth ranked team in the country as they shut down the Oklahoma attack in a 30-18, 30-7, 30-15 win over the Sooner in front of 4,005 fans at the N.U. Coliseum. Oklahoma fell to 5-20 on the season and 3-14 in Big 12 play. The Huskers improved to 24-1 overall and 16-1 in conference, along the way keeping their 65 match Big 12 winning steak alive.
"We struggled early and never gained any momentum, " said Kalani Mahi. "We dug the ball decently tonight but our attackers were wild and we couldn't put points on the board. We'll get after it in practice this week and be ready for Kansas State on Wednesday."
OU hit -.026 (24K-27E-117TA) on the match, the first time this season the Sooners have collected more errors than kills. Nebraska hit .407 (54K-10E-108TA).
OU was led by junior Christina Barlow who pounded out seven kills, which was offset by eight attack errors. No other Sooner had more than four kills. Freshman libero Tara Birkinbine collected nine digs, while senior Denise Griffin and Jessica Barney dug eight balls apiece.
OU travels to Manhatten, Kan. Wednesday, Nov. 20, for a 7 p.m. showdown with No. 20 Kansas State. OU returns home Nov. 23 for the home season finale against Colorado at 2 p.m. Admission will be free to the match as part of "Super Sooner Saturday".
