NORMAN, Okla. - The University of Oklahoma head women's basketball coach Sherri Coale is pleased to announce the signing of Leah Rush (Amarillo, Texas) to a national letter of intent for the 2003-04 academic year.

"Leah Rush is a talented, tough basketball player who has an extremely high ceiling," said Coale. "She's in the mold of two prestigious Sooner greats - Phylesha Whaley and Caton Hill. Leah plays the game with great passion and has a chance to become a special player here."

Leah Rush, a 6-1 forward, was a preseason Street & Smith's High School All-American honorable mention pick. Rush entered her senior season ranked as the fourth best power forward and the 36th best overall player in the nation according to the All-Star Girls Reports. She averaged 17.0 points and 13.5 rebounds per game last season for Amarillo High School. She also shot a solid 48.9 percent from the field while her team produced an overall record of 30-6. Rush earned All-State, Texas Sports Writers and Texas Athletic Basketball Coaches All-State honors as a junior. She was also named MVP of District 3-5A and selected to the 2002 Globle News Super Team. Last summer, Rush was among the elite to be invited to the USA Basketball Youth Development Festival hosted at the Olympic Training Center in Colorado Spring, Colo. She was also invited to participate in the 2002 Nike All-America camp. Rush's high school coach is Dale Blaut.

"We are incredibly excited about this recruiting class," said Coale. "They immediately improve our team speed and athleticism, and they are great kids who really seem to fit. They will be an exciting class for Sooner fans to follow."
