NORMAN, Okla. - Fourth-ranked Oklahoma will open the season at the fourth annual SUNY-Brockport/Oklahoma Gold Classic on Nov. 16 in Brockport, N.Y. In addition to tournament hosts Oklahoma and Brockport, the tournament field will consist of Ohio State, the US Military Academy, Bloomsburg, Buffalo, Cleveland State, Rutgers, Wagner and Pitt-Johnstown. The tournament will be held on the Brockport campus with the preliminaries set to begin at 10 a.m. and finals beginning at 6 p.m. Oklahoma has claimed the previous three titles, while taking seven individual titles last year.
"We're really excited to get out under the lights. Our guys are eager to get out and compete against other people after banging heads with each other in practice everyday, " said head coach Jack Spates. "It's a good tournament with sixth ranked Ohio State, as well as eight other teams, so this is a great way to start the season."
Oklahoma will take seven wrestlers ranked in the top 20 by either Amateur Wrestling News or Intermat. OU's ranked wrestlers include top-ranked senior Josh Lambrecht (184 pounds), second-ranked senior Nate Parker (141 pounds) and third-ranked senior Witt Durden (133 pounds).
