OU Men's Tennis Duo Win Opening Rounds Of ITA All-American

NORMAN, Okla. - A pair of University of Oklahoma men's tennis players each won their opening round match in the prequalifying portion of the 2002 Icy Hot/ITA Men's All-American Championships in Chattanooga, Tenn., at the Atlanta Community Tennis Association Champions Club. The prequalifying tournament began with a total of 256 players.

OU senior Chris Mitchell (Tulsa, Okla.) defeated Texas' Joe Morris (0-6, 6-4, 6-4) to move on to the round of 128 while freshman Tommy Garrison (Enid, Okla.) also advanced beating Jeff Guerry of Furman in straight sets (6-4, 6-4).

Garrison will take on Winthrop's Adam Narczewski at 7 a.m. CST Saturday while Mitchell is scheduled to face Matias Ormaza of Georgia State at 8. The duo will also begin doubles action Saturday afternoon following singles competition.
