NORMAN, Okla. - The University of Oklahoma baseball team released its season schedule Thursday afternoon revealing a list of tough competition ahead for the Sooners in 2003. Lining the Sooners' slate are five teams that concluded last season ranked in the Top 25 and 11 NCAA Tournament participants from a year ago. Adding to OU's rigorous Big 12 Conference schedule, the Sooners will also take on perennial national powerhouses Arizona State (March 14-16, April 29), Oral Roberts (April 8 & 22) and Wichita State (April 1 & 15) in non-conference action. OU opens the season at home on Friday, Feb. 7 at 3 p.m. in the first contest of a three-game set against Southeast Missouri State.

The Sooners' first game against the Indians kicks off a nine-game homestand to begin the season, their longest stretch at L. Dale Mitchell Park of the season. Other teams that OU will host during this span are Texas-San Antonio (Feb. 14-16) and Sam Houston State (Feb. 21-23). A three-game slate in the Lamar Tournament (Feb. 28-March 2) will match Oklahoma with three fellow 2002 NCAA Tournament qualifiers in host school Lamar, Southwest Missouri State and Ohio State.

Following a return home for another extended homestand, the Sooners hit the brunt of their schedule. Oklahoma travels to ASU for a three-game series beginning March 14, and then returns home for a single road contest at Texas-Arlington (March 19) before starting up their Big 12 schedule on March 21 at Baylor. The Sooners' series versus the Bears begins their toughest stretch of league competition as they continue on to face Nebraska (March 28-30), Texas A&M (April 4-6) and defending national champion Texas (April 11-13) over the next three consecutive weekends.

Oklahoma City's Southwestern Bell Bricktown Ballpark will be the host of several of the Sooners' biggest games this season. The final two contests of the annual Bedlam Series with Oklahoma State (April 26-27), following a single game at Tulsa's Driller's Stadium on April 25, will be held at the Bricktown Ballpark. For the fifth-straight year, the Sooners and Sun Devils will battle in a single game at the ballpark three days later on April 30. OU's next appearance in Oklahoma City will be as part of the Phillips 66/Big 12 Conference Baseball Tournament (May 21-25) which returns to the Bricktown Ballpark after a brief one year stay in Arlington, Texas.
