NORMAN, Okla. - Two of Oklahoma's best wrestlers, senior Matt Ridings and junior Witt Durden competed in the prestigious NWCA All-Star Classic Monday at Hofstra University in Hempstead, N.Y. However, both wrestlers came up short, losing close matches.
Third-ranked Witt Durden (23-2) fell to second-ranked Johnny Thompson of Oklahoma State, 4-2, at 133 pounds. Durden saw his ten-match winning streak snapped and has suffered both defeats to the hands of Thompson this year.
At 125, No. 5 Matt Ridings (21-3) pushed Ben Vombaur of Boise State to a tiebreaking set at one but fell to the fourth-ranked wrestler.
Durden and Ridings, along with the rest of the Oklahoma team, will be in action on Friday, February 1 as they host No. 13/15 Northern Iowa at 7 p.m. at the Howard McCasland Fieldhouse.
