NORMAN, Okla. - The 2000-2001 University of Oklahoma women's basketball media guide has been judged the best in the country by the College Sports Information Directors of America. Associate SID Debbie Long and Coordinator of Publications Debbie Copp collaborated on the project. The award will be presented at the annual CoSIDA Convention to be held later this month.
The Sooners' 2000 football media guide finished seventh in the nation in the annual contest. Award winners for that book include Mike Prusinski, director of athletic media relations, Dustin Roberts, a student assistant in the media relations office, and Copp.
The women's basketball book was printed by Transcript Press of Norman and the football book was printed by OU Printing Services, also in Norman.
The women's basketball book also was first in the district and the football book finished second in the district.
The OU women's basketball guide received high marks for team information (191 out of 195 total points), season review (57 out of 60 points), general information (132 out of 135 points), conference information (30 out of 30), and editorial (101 out of 105 points).
The football guide received high marks in the season in review section (56 out of 60 points possible), program history (145 out of 150), conference information (30 out of 30), and editorial (100 out of 105).
The OU women's guide finished ahead of Louisiana State, Texas, Miami, Arkansas, Illinois, and Wisconsin. Tennessee finished first in the football guide contest and three of the top seven books were from Big 12 schools (Texas, fourth, Nebraska, sixth, and OU, seventh).
Judges for the contest include members of the media, graphic design professionals and public relations professionals.
