NORMAN, Okla. - University of Oklahoma sophomore wrestler Witt Durden has been named second team Academic All-American by the National Wrestling Coaches Association. The 133-pounder earned the honor after placing third at the NCAA Championships to become an All-American and posting a 3.03 GPA.

Durden set career highs in wins last season with 33. Despite placing fourth at the Big 12 Championships and being unseeded at the national tournament, Durden placed third to earn All-America honors. He won seven of eight matches at the NCAA Championships, including six straight. Durden's last four victories were all against seeded wrestlers that he had never beaten.

This is the second straight year a Sooner has earned Academic All-America honors. David Kjeldgaard was named GTE/CoSIDA second team Academic All-American in 2000.
