OU Women's Tennis Edged By Iowa State

AMES, Iowa. - The University of Oklahoma women's tennis team dropped the first dual of a two-match road swing, losing to Iowa State on Friday, 4-3. OU drops to 4-9 on the season and remains winless in Big 12 Conference action, while the Cyclones grab their first league win of the year.

Oklahoma fell just short of scoring the doubles point. At the No. 1 spot, senior Viviana Mracnova and sophomore Melissa Mendieta downed Noortje Cornelissen and Sabrina Evers, 8-4. Iowa State's Courtney Leese and Edna Vazques defeated Annette Bryntesson and Stephanie Sajbert at No. 2 slot, while OU's Joni Helleland and Tiffany Streeter lost, 9-8, in a tiebreaker at the third doubles position.

The Sooners scored all three of their points in singles matches. Mracnova picked up the straight-set win over Cornelissen, 7-5, 6-4, at No. 1 singles. Sajbert won in three sets at the No. 4 spot, dropping Kristin Gyaki, 6-3, 4-6, 6-1. Redshirt freshman Streeter won her first conference match of the season and in her career, cruising past ISU's Leese, 6-3, 6-1. Bryntesson and Helleland both lost three-set heartbreakers at Nos. 2 and 5 singles. Either match could have put the Sooners over the top for the win.

OU will be in action on Sunday in Lincoln, Neb., for a 10 a.m. dual with Huskers.
