Viviana Mracnova Wins Big 12 Player of the Week Honors

NORMAN, Okla. - University of Oklahoma women's tennis player Viviana Mracnova was named the Big 12 Player of the Week for matches played from April 2-8 the conference office announced Tuesay. The OU senior compiled a flawless 4-0 record in matches at Iowa State and Nebraska.

Mracnova, the Sooners' No. 1 singles player, disposed of ISU's Noortje Cornelisson, 6-4, 7-5, and downed Leslie Harvey of No. 39 Nebraska in three sets, 3-6, 7-6, 6-1. The Zvolen, Slovakia, product pushed her singles record to 9-4 overall and 6-2 in Big 12 play.

In doubles action, Mracnova and partner Melissa Mendieta, upped their record to 10-4 on the year, after picking up a pair of wins the No. 1 slot. The tandem grabbed an 8-4 victory over Cornelisson and Evers of ISU and defeated Nebraska's Harvey and Rose Ketmayura, 8-3. Mracnova and Mendieta were a 2001 preseason All-Big 12 doubles selection.

Mracnova is nearing the end of a highly successful Oklahoma career. With her talent and athleticism, she was able to step right into the lineup after arriving at OU and has played only the top two singles positions for the Sooners. She was an All-Big 12 doubles selection in her first three seasons and earned singles honors for the first time in last year. Mracnova and former teammate Angela Stroup were the Big 12 Conference Champion at No. 1 doubles in 2000 and the duo also became the third doubles team in OU history to advance to the Women's NCAA Championship.

The Oklahoma women's netters return to action on Saturday when they take on Kansas State at 11 a.m. at the Westwood Tennis Center in Norman.
