Sooners Nipped By Texas Tech in Women's Tennis Action

NORMAN, Okla. - The University of Oklahoma women's tennis team fell just short of its first conference victory of the season Sunday at the Westwood Tennis Center in Norman, losing to Texas Tech, 4-3. The Sooners fell to 4-8 on the year and 0-5 in Big 12 Conference play.

Texas Tech captured the doubles point after winning the No. 1 and No. 3 positions. OU's Australian duo of Annette Bryntesson and Stephanie Sajbert defeated Sonnia Orellano and Dana Giles at No. 2 doubles, 8-4.

Oklahoma fought back in singles action. Senior Viviana Mracnova pulled out the three-setter, 6-4, 4-6, 7-6, over Tech's Barbara Schramil. Bryntesson came from behind to win at No. 3 singles, beating Orellano, 5-7, 6-4, 7-5. At the No. 4 slot, Sooner senior Stephanie Sajbert downed Stephanie Mueller, 7-6, 7-5. With the score tied 3-3, Dana Giles clinched the match for the Red Raiders, edging Joni Helleland, 6-4, 6-7, 6-3.

The Sooners hit the road this week in the Big 12 Conference. OU heads to Ames, Iowa, to take on the Iowa State Cyclones on Friday, April 6 at 2 p.m. and then on to Lincoln, Neb., to battle the Nebrabska Cornhuskers, Sunday at 10 a.m.
