Hollis Price Named Big 12 Player Of The Week

NORMAN, Okla. - Hollis Price, a sophomore point guard on the University of Oklahoma men's basketball team, was named Big 12 Player of the Week today by the league office.

Price directed the Sooners to 86-67 and 68-56 wins over Colorado and Oklahoma State last week by averaging 18.5 points, 5.5 assists and 2.5 steals. It marked the first time Price has won the weekly honor.

Against Colorado last Wednesday, Price scored 21 points on 8-of-11 field goal and 3-of-4 three-point shooting, and had three assists and a pair of steals. He added 16 points, eight assists and three steals against the Cowboys on Saturday.

Price and two other Sooners earned additional acclaim from the conference office today as the league's specialty teams were announced. Price was named to the Big 12 All-Underrated Team, while senior guard Kelley Newton was named to the Big 12 All-Bench Team and junior forward Aaron McGhee was named to the Big 12 All-Newcomer Team.

Price averages 12.0 points and team highs in assists (4.8 apg) and steals (1.8 spg) for the 23-6 Sooners. He has led OU in assists in 23 of its 29 games. Newton, who ranks third in the Big 12 with a .462 three-point mark, has come off the bench in 16 games this season and averages 9.2 points and 2.3 three-pointers per outing. McGhee averages a team-high 13.7 points per game, as well as 4.7 rebounds. He is shooting .474 from the field, .452 from three-point range and .780 from the free throw line.

The Sooners, who finished tied for second place in the Big 12 regular season, are the No. 3 seed in the postseason tournament and will play either Texas A&M or Missouri Friday at approximately 8:20 p.m. inside Kemper Arena in Kansas City, Mo.
