Oklahoma vs. Stanford

March 20, 2001 | Women's Basketball

March 19, 2001

Head Coach Sherri Coale
General comment: "I don't know that I've ever been prouder in my entire life of a group of kids than I am tonight. I thought we probably shot close to a season low from the field, but we found ways to win. This game was the exact opposite of December's game. That one was a score-fest and this one was more defensive oriented. Both teams played really sound defense. I thought a key was our rebounding. I am so proud our kids played from the heart."

On OU's offensive game:
"I thought we did a good job attacking tonight, especially LaNeishea. We got some opportunities to go to the free throw line. Tonight we played much more relaxed and poised. At the shoot around today, I knew they were ready to play."

On outrebounding Stanford:
"Our players believe what we tell them. I've always thought what you emphasize is more important than what you teach. We start practice everyday with the rebounding drill. You've got to be able to rebound. It surprised me how many offensive boards we got tonight -- we got a lot of second and third chances. Even if you don't score on those, it's draining to a defense."

Junior guard Stacey Dales
On the difference between 2000 and 2001 postseason: "The difference is this year is that we've done it before and I think that will make us more competitive going into the next game as opposed to last year which ended up being a blowout."

On OU's inside game: "We wanted to put pressure on them inside. You can't be intimidated by their heigth. When we got it inside it gave us a chance for a lot of kickouts for three point baskets. I thought Jamie Talbert was our heroine tonight. She got blocked a few times, but she still kept crashing the boards."

Junior guard LaNeishea Caufield
On chemistry with Caton Hill: "Caton and I have a different chemistry than Stacey and I do. It's nice to have someone you've played with before and you know they're going to be able to make the play."

Sophomore forward Caton Hill
On the crowd: "The crowd was a huge impact tonight and you have to think that Stanford was intimidated by it."

On rebounding inside:
"When I'm in, I know my job is to rebound and I was happy with how I rebounded the ball today. Rebounding is all about position and coach taught us to push them back and sometimes we got some loose balls when they didn't block out."
