Women's Tennis Falls to Kansas, 5-2

NORMAN, Okla. - The University of Oklahoma women's tennis squad lost its second Big 12 Conference match of the season to Kansas, 5-2, on Saturday at the Westwood Tennis Center in Norman. The Sooners dropped to 4-4 on the year and 0-2 in league action.

Oklahoma captured the doubles point, taking two of three matches. At No. 1 doubles, Viviana Mracnova and Melissa Mendieta edged the KU duo of Courtney Steinbeck and Kristen Steinbeck, 9-7, to move to 7-1 on the season. Senior Stephanie Sajbert and sophomore Annette Bryntesson defeated Cheryl Mallaiah and Lisa Mallaiah, 8-5, at the No. 2 slot. Sophomore Joni Helleland and redshirt freshman Tiffany Streeter lost an 8-3 decision to Emily Haylock and Kim Lorenz at No.3 doubles.

Mracnova cruised to the Sooners' only singles win, downing Cheryl Mallaiah, 6-3, 6-0, at No. 1 singles. The preseason All-Big 12 selection improved to 5-2 on the year.

The Sooners will play its first matches away from home this week, as they travel to College Station to take on Texas A&M on Thursday at 6 p.m. and then to Austin for a tilt with the Texas Longhorns at Noon on Saturday.
