NORMAN, Okla. - wo University of Oklahoma women's tennis players were named to the Preseason All-Big 12 teams as voted on by league coaches and announced by the conference office today. Senior Viviana Mracnova earned singles honors and made the doubles team as well, along with sophomore Melissa Mendieta.
Mracnova was among 12 players from around the conference to earn preseason All-Big 12 singles honors. She currently owns a No. 19 ranking in the ITA's Central Region. During her career at OU, she has been twice been named to the Preseason All-Big 12 doubles team and once to the singles team. The Zvolen, Slovakia, native made a trip to the doubles portion of NCAA Tournament last spring along with former teammate Angela Stroup.
Mendieta and Mracnova, the Sooners' No. 1 doubles team, are one of six pairs to be named to the Preseason All-Big 12 doubles team. Mendieta is in her second season at Oklahoma. The San Jose, Costa Rica, product owns a perfect 3-0 record in both singles and doubles so far this season. Mracnova and Mendieta are currently ranked 13th in the Central Region.
The Sooner women's tennis team is 2-1 on the season and returns to the court on Friday, Feb. 9, when they take on Arkansas State at the Santa Fe Tennis Center in Oklahoma City. Match time is set for 5 p.m.
