Oklahoma Coach & Player Quotes
Oklahoma Head Coach Sherri Coale
On the game:
"I thought that we did some things very well tonight but there were some other things that we didn't do so well. I thought we gave up some shots that we shouldn't have but I won't argue with a victory. Stacey Dales was solid for us tonight and Jamie Talbert did a great job against Kim Woodlee. She didn't allow her to get any easy shots. Sunny Hardeman saved us on about 15 possessions tonight. We started the game out fast and then we allowed them to get back into the game before we our run at the end of the first half."
On the end of the first half run:
"This game was really fragmented in the first half. We were trying to establish a tempo in the game and it was difficult. Their coach did a really good job of disrupting the tempo. I think that eventually we did a good job of taking advantage of some dead-ball situations and that helped us establish a more comfortable tempo. Our defense led to a lot of scores on offense. Our half-court trap was especially effective"
On junior forward Rosalind Ross:
"One of the great things about Rosalind is her ability to come off the bench and be such a catalyst for our team. She played great defense tonight, she used her hands really well. She's really confident in her shooting and that showed tonight as well."
On the 30-minute delay:
"I didn't want to think that we were that fragile of a team that something like that would affect us that much. Last week at Nebraska, we had to face a similar situation so were ready tonight despite what happened before the game."
Junior Guard Stacey Dales
"It's just a matter of us knowing when to turn it on. In the last couple of games, we stuggled a bit, found ourselves, and moved forward. It's like a progression for us to get a seven-point lead then 12 then 20. In tonight's game, we had a lot of momentum going into half. It definitely carried over to the beginning of the second. All top 10 teams have that killer instinct."
Junior Guard Rosalind Ross
"I stress my defensive play a lot. At the beginning of the season, offense was my first priority. But with the offensive weapons we have on this team, my priorities changed. The only thing that I'm concern about is getting to the Final Four. We still don't get the respect and we are a top 10 team."
Kansas State Head Coach Deb Patterson
General Comment:
"I thought the last 4 minutes of the first half were critical. Oklahoma at that time really stepped up like a championship team and took over the game on the defensive end of the floor. Oklahoma's ability to score in the paint the second 20 minutes was outstanding and we did not match their intensity. I thought their post players and their guards made a living in the paint in the second half."
On Stacey Dales:
"Stacey Dales, I think, is without a doubt the best point guard in the country. She is a phenomenal passer. She's an incredible presence on both ends of the floor and her ability to beat you off the dribble from the perimeter and with her passing is just outstanding. I think that she is one of the best passers that our game has seen and then when you see her score on the alley-oop and back screen lob plays. There are so many things that she does with her size that are exceptional, they aren't good, they are exceptional. They are the caliber that not many players attain."
On LaNeishea Caufield:
"In my opinion LaNeishea Caufield is a first-team All-Big 12 guard. She plays with such great poise and she is such a great scorer. She picks you apart and she beats you in a lot of different ways. She beats you with a turnover, she beats you with a rebound, she beats you with a drop dead three and she beats you with the penetration. It's because of her versatility, aggressiveness and her savvy that she is a very tough player to defend and have an answer for. That's what I think makes her great, she is a phenomenal player in what she produces and brings to the floor."
