DALLAS - Oklahoma senior Waymon May was selected as Big 12 Wrestler of the Week as announced by the conference office Monday.
May upset top-ranked Brad Vering of Nebraska 3-2 in Oklahoma's 33-7 win over the Huskers on Feb. 11. May scored a takedown in the first period and never trailed. Entering the match, May was ranked 11th by Amateur Wrestling News.
The Perry, Okla., native has won 17 of his last 20 matches. All three of May's losses in that stretch have been by one point. His overall dual match record at 197 pounds this season stands at 27-9.
May becomes the third different Sooner to take wrestler of the week honors this year. Michael Lightner and Michael Barger won the award in back-to-back weeks in January. The sixth-ranked Sooners, 17-4-1 overall, return to the mat against in-state rival Oklahoma State in Stillwater on Sunday. Bedlam action will begin at 2 p.m. (CST).
