NORMAN, Okla. - The sixth-ranked Oklahoma wrestling team won eight of 10 matches, including upset wins by Matt Ridings at 125 pounds and 197-pounder Waymon May, in a 33-7 win against No. 8 Nebraska in the OU Field House today. The Sooners also won by bonus at 141, 149, 165 and 184 pounds. OU improved 17-4-1 with the win while Nebraska dropped to 11-5.

Oklahoma heavyweight Leonce Crump won the dual's opening bout, 6-2, before the unranked Ridings scored a reverse with 42 seconds remaining in the third period for a 8-7 upset of fourth-ranked Jason Powell. Ridings has now won 13 straight bouts and recorded back-to-back wins against ranked opponents. Todd Beckerman put the Huskers on the board with a 7-4 decision of Witt Durden at 133. Nebraska forfeited to Michael Lightner at 141 pounds and Sooner Jared Frayer pinned Travis Baker in 4:04 at 149. NU's 157-pound Bryan Snyder won by a four-point technical fall at 157, downing Tony Moore, 23-8.

Sooner Robbie Waller claimed the 165-pound match, majoring Ryan Shultz, 9-1. Nebraska's Ati Conner scored an escape with six seconds remaining in the third period to tie OU's Michael Barger 1-1 at 174 but Barger's 1:52 riding time advantage gave him a 2-1 victory. Oklahoma's Josh Lambrecht needed only 4:05 to tech fall Charles McTorry, 16-0, at 184 pounds. Wrestling in his final home dual, senior 197-pounder May, ranked 11th nationally, upset top-ranked and defending national champion Brad Vering, 3-2.

"Waymon May is big time," said OU Head Coach Jack Spates. "He and Matt Ridings, as well as the team as a whole, wrestled hard and smart. We just have to keep that intensity for Bedlam against Oklahoma State."

The Sooners will battle in-state rival Oklahoma State in Stillwater on Sunday, Feb. 18. Bedlam action will begin at 2 p.m.
