Oklahoma vs. St. Bonaventure
December 5, 2001
Lloyd Noble Center - Norman, Okla.

Oklahoma Head Coach Kelvin Sampson:

On the game:
"I think that this game really helped us. St. Bonaventure is a good team. They're about as unconventional a team as you'll play. We contested a lot of their shots but they kept making their shots. Their coach has done an excellent job and they are going to win a lot of basketball games this season. I was a bit concerned about how we would come out tonight after a big win at Arkansas but I thought we responded well. We got good shots and we made them when we had to."

On senior Aaron McGhee:
"Aaron came out and got 19 points and 19 rebounds. I don't think I've ever had a kid that put up those kinds of numbers."

On senior Daryan Selvy and OU's rebounding:
"Daryan Selvy is learning how to play his role on this team. He came out and rebounded well for us. We're a good rebounding team and it's something that we're going to continue to work on. Johnnie (Gilbert) and Ebe (Ere) really helped out adding six rebounds a piece.

Oklahoma Forward Aaron McGhee:

On his second double-double in three games:
"This was my best game of the year and it felt good. I've practiced so hard all year and just worked on my weaknesses. I play real hard in practice and it's good to see that carry over to the games. I played really hard tonight and I just wanted to help the team as much as I could. I took it upon myself to attack the glass and get every rebound I could."

On OU's spurt to end the game:
"We were behind and I came out of the game. I just wanted to go back in and boost our energy. I wanted to lift us up and lead us to victory and we played well down the stretch."

Oklahoma Guard Ebi Ere

On his scoring the last few games:
"I'm starting to get into a rhythm and I'm taking better shots. I'm not shooting as many three-pointers and I've been trying to help this team win any way I can. We've known all along we're a good team and we just wanted to get up the floor tonight. We kept attacking and we want to keep that up. We've has success attacking teams in the last few games."

On finding open teammates for open shots:
"Coach Sampson told us to watch the wings when we penetrate. He said we were missing wide open guys, and sure enough, we watched for that tonight and we had open teammates just waiting for us to kick it back out to them. They made some big shots."

St Bonaventure Quotes

St. Bonaventure Head Coach Jan van Breda Kolff:

On Oklahoma's rebounding:
"I don't think we came into this game thinking we were going to out rebound OU. They are a bigger and stronger team than we are, but the name of the game is to outscore the opponent, and we almost did that tonight. Every time we went to the basket they were trying to block our shot, so we told the open guy to go in and get the offensive rebound."

On the outcome:
"Oklahoma capitalized and made shots when they needed to make them. Their rebounding was an advantage but if we would have made some lay ups and free throws we could have done it tonight. We took the ball to the basket tonight but defensively we didn't come up with the rebounds."

On St. Bonaventure defense:
"We used four presses and five half-court defenses. If we had more size our defense would have been more effective against OU."
