OKLAHOMA VS. BETHUNE-COOKMAN
SATURDAY, DEC. 16, 2001
LLOYD NOBLE CENTER - NORMAN, OKLA.
Oklahoma Head Coach Kelvin Sampson
On OU's performance:
"It's difficult from a human nature standpoint to do what we did last night again tonight. Last night, we scored 107 and tonight, we scored 102. We haven't had many easy wins because we've played several hard teams this season, but I thought we played better last night. I want a tough team and not a pretty team and I thought that Bethune-Cookman out-toughed us in the second half. A win is a win, but our concentration level is going to be higher when we go up against a tough Eastern Illinois team on Tuesday. These games are good for us, but they're over now and our games are only going to get tougher."
On OU's defense and junior Guard Ebi Ere:
"I thought that our zone defense was effective against them. One real bright spot in this game was Ebi Ere's play. He's really improved his defense in the last two weeks. He's learned how to be a defensive player and he's going to get better as the season progresses."
On sophomore center Jabahri Brown:
"He'll continue to develop. His effort has been outstanding in these first two games. Tonight he had 10 rebounds and nine points in only 21 minutes. I wanted to use him in our zone defense because he has never played in one. It was good to get him that kind of experience."
Oklahoma Forward Aaron McGhee
On his game tonight:
"I wanted to go out there and play hard. I had a good shooting night, but I was disappointed I didn't get any rebounds at all. I've had some good rebounding games lately. Some nights, your shots fall and tonight was one of those nights."
On getting two big wins on back-to-back nights:
"You just have to concentrate and not have any letdowns. Once you get up and get a big lead like we did, you can't ease up or let them come back into the game. We just wanted to keep playing hard and not have a letdown."
Oklahoma Forward Daryan Selvy
"I think we're finding a good chemistry. We've been working so hard and we're trying to be the best team we can be. It's good for us to keep playing games. Last night, I drew a charge and it really got me going. My teammates were all fired up and that got me going. Last week, that wasn't there, so I'm just playing hard."
On Jabahri Brown:
"It's great having him in there. I'm playing the same role and trying to do my duty. I'm not worrying about anything else, I'm just playing hard and doing whatever I can to help us win."
On the game:
"It's definitely two different worlds (between the Big 12 and the MEAC). We weren't expecting to dominate tonight but we looked for guys to come out and compete and put forth some effort.
"Competing is not necessarily winning. If you get knocked down seven times you just have to get back up."
On playing Oklahoma:
"We're going to have to play some OU's if we're fortunate enough to win our conference. OU has a great team, and we wish Kelvin success in the Big 12 this year.
