OU HEAD COACH KELVIN SAMPSON
On the game:
"I was really proud of our defense and our rebounding tonight. A lot of our new guys like Jason Detrick and Ebe Ere aren't used to the style of defense that we play but they keep playing and trying. This is the best defensive team I've had at this point in the season. EA Sports is a good team. They beat Arkansas and Arkansas State, and played Texas Tech very closely, so I'm happy with the win."
On senior forward Daryan Selvy:
"Of all our players tonight, I was most proud of Daryan Selvy. I brought him off the bench tonight and it was important to see how he responded. I thought he responded very well by leading our team. He is so active and such a good player."
On OU's young players:
"We've got a lot good young players on this team including players like Blake Johnston. He's the best passer in the open court on this team. He will make the best decision. Matt Gipson is another good player who our fans haven't seen. He is going to be a really good player for us."
OU JUNIOR JASON DETRICK
On the game:
"Coach Sampson and I had a talk this week about me playing with more confidence and playing harder. He thought I was down a little, so I went out tonight and played and had a lot of fun. I liked this game much more than the one on Monday. I just wanted to play hard and give the team energy when I got in the game."
On how the preseason games will help OU in the regular season:
"I think they prepared us a lot because we got better as a team. We didn't shoot the ball well, but we still won. Down the road, if we're not hitting shots, we can know that we can still win games and that can't hurt at all. We built a good chemistry and learned to play a lot as a team."
OU JUNIOR HOLLIS PRICE
On the game and the preseason as a whole:
"I think we improved a lot. We played great defensively for the whole 40 minutes and that's important. Coach Sampson said after the game that this might be the best defensive effort he's seen in a long time. That's a compliment to us, but we can't get too high about that. We need to keep improving and this game will help a lot in doing that."
On his and the team's slow start tonight:
"We did start off a little slow, but it was just a matter of getting ourselves going. We had a number of open shots and we just didn't make them. The guys on this team can really score and we just need to keep being aggressive. We knew we would turn it on sooner or later."
EA SPORTS HEAD COACH PHIL BRYANT
On Oklahoma:
"This is one of the worst exhibition losses we've had in years. I knew they would be good but didn't realize they would be such a good rebounding team and as athletic as they were. I was very impressed.
"They were right up there with Kansas, except that I thought Kansas shot the ball a little bit better. But defensively, they were right there with any number of good teams we've faced over the years, including Syracuse, Duke, Kansas and Maryland."
EA SPORTS GUARD KRIS JOHNSON
On Oklahoma:
"OU played hard, that was one thing that stood out to me. They crashed the offensive glass. Early on their shots weren't falling but when they got hot, they were a tough team to beat. They've got good guards and some good inside play. It's still early though. Coach Sampson's teams usually peak toward the end of the season."
