OKLAHOMA vs. ATHLETES FIRST
McCASLAND FIELD HOUSE - NORMAN, OKLA.
OU HEAD COACH KELVIN SAMPSON
On the game:
"I thought that Athletes First gave us a good test tonight. They've got a lot of good talent on that team including Tony Heard and Eric Martin. You certainly have to give them credit but we can play better. Our team did some good things but it's November 5 and we played just about how we should. We're going to get a lot better and the good thing is that we have a few days to practice on some things so we can continue to get better."
On juniors Hollis Price and Ebi Ere:
"I thought Hollis Price did some good things for our team. Ebi Ere also had a good start to his career but he is definitely going to get better as the season progresses."
OU JUNIOR HOLLIS PRICE
On the game:
"We've got a lot to learn. We had a lot of breakdowns and we didn't execute a lot of the things we practiced this week, but that's what your first game is for. We can watch film and get much better from this game."
On what he and the team can learn from this game:
"I'm kind of disappointed, but that's what watching film is for. We can correct a lot of things in practice and get better for Friday's game. We have a good offense and guys just have to make shots. Ebi (Ere) and Quannas (White) are good scorers, but it goes back to defense. If we can't get stops, we won't make it far in the tournament and that's our goal for this season."
OU JUNIOR EBI ERE
On the game:
"I was pleased with what I was able to do offensively, but I have a lot of improvements to make on defense. I needed to play much better on that end of the floor. I felt like I was getting into a good flow in the second half. I was a little off to start the game."
On what he and the team can learn from this game:
"We can all learn from this game and get better. I want to keep improving all areas of my game, especially on the defensive end. That's where I think I can have a big impact, so I want to keep working on defense."
"We had some players who played well tonight. Aaron McGhee had a nice game, so did Daryan (Selvy). But we can get much better."
ATHLETES FIRST HEAD COACH GARY VICK
On his impressions of Oklahoma:
"I didn't really have a chance to evaluate the younger guys because the veterans carried the team tonight. Hollis (Price), (Aaron) McGhee and (Daryan) Selvey were really the guys we had trouble stopping."
"They were obviously a more athletic team. That's what everyone has been saying and I think it's true. When Jabahri Brown comes around they will have more of a post presence and probably eliminate some of the backdoor plays."
ATHLETES FIRST GUARD ERIC MARTIN
On playing at Oklahoma again:
"It felt really good to come back and play. Any chance I get to come back and play, I take it."
On the Sooners:
"They look good. They have some absences here and there but they're going to get better."
On OU's Ebi Ere:
"Other than chasing Ebi around the whole court, I had a blast. He's a tremendous talent, and he's going to help OU out a lot."
