NORMAN, Okla. - The University of Oklahoma volleyball team (2-22, 1-12 Big 12) lost its first match of the Dr. Mary Jo Wynn Invitational to Middle Tennessee State (9-18, 4-9 Sun Belt) in four games. The Sooners lost the first two games 30-20 and 3-21, then bounced back with a 30-19 win only to fall 30-24 in game four.
Sophomore Logan Pierce exploded for a career-high 23 kills to lead the Sooners, while hitting a team-best .271. She added a team-high 14 digs to record her sixth double-double of the season. Four other Sooners added to the defensive effort with double digits in digs. Junior Lindsay Hoyt hustled for 13 while junior Denise Griffin, sophomore Christina Barlow and freshman Emily Kincaid recorded 11 digs each. The 11 digs was a career-high for Kincaid while she tied a career-high three service aces. Freshman Gretchen French posted a team-best three blocks.
The Blue Raiders outblocked the Sooners 12 to 5. MTSU's Karisse Baker posted a match-best nine blocks to lead the way for the Blue Raiders.
Shakeithia Deckard led MTSU's offense with 18 kills followed by Erin Hillstrom with 13 kills. Jennifer Hignite led the team with a .833 hitting percentage (5K, 0E, 6TA). Hillstrom led the Blue Raiders' defensive effort, posting a match-high 23 digs, while Deckard and Goldie Bilyeu recorded 13 and 11, respectively.
The Sooners are next in action against Wichita State and SMS on Sunday, Nov. 4, at 9 a.m. and 2:30 p.m., respectively.
