Hello Sooner basketball fans! I hope you're ready for an exciting season, because as a team, we can't wait. I'm going to be writing this diary every week during the season to update you on how we're doing and what's going on behind the scenes of Oklahoma basketball. We're all very excited and anxious to get out there and show everyone what Sooner basketball is all about. We've worked very hard in the off-season and we're ready to go.
Coach Sampson and I have been building a very close connection all summer and, as a captain, we almost have a father-son bond. I think that's something Coach has with all his captains. He and Eduardo Najera were very close my freshman year and then, last year, he and Nolan Johnson had a connection. This year it'll be him and me and next year it'll be the same. I'm going to be here for two more years and that's what you need to be successful. He needs me to know what he's thinking all the time, on and off the floor.
Another big reason that I'm excited for this season is that Quannas White is now a Sooner. He and I played together at St. Augustine High in New Orleans, and now that we're both at OU it's like a little reunion for us. We've had so much success together since our freshman year in high school and he's matured a lot since then. He has grown up as a basketball player and his body has matured. In high school, he was skinny like I am, but it seems like his body has filled out and mine hasn't. I'm excited to see him back with me.
It's going to be fun playing with Aaron McGhee. He's worked hard all summer and we all know that he's going to post up real hard when games start. If he's running hard to post up, I want to get him the ball. We have to get him the ball every time he's down there busting his butt in the paint.
To me, a pass that leads to an assist is the best thing I can do on the basketball court. Scoring is good, but it's so exciting to me to set up a score. Every time I passed the ball inside to Kelley Newton or anybody last year, I just loved it because I want see other guys succeed because of what I did.
It should be a great year for OU basketball. We're ready to continue our tradition of "Heart, Hustle and Hardwood," and we're hoping to see all of you at the Lloyd Noble Center being our sixth man!
