No. 19 Sooners Battle No. 7 Cyclones In Women's Basketball

THE GAME
The Iowa State and Oklahoma women's basketball game tomorrow at 1 p.m. will be televised live on the Fox Sports Network as part of the Big 12 Conference package. Bill Land (play-by-play) and Elissa Walker-Campbell (color commentary) will call the game. The contest will also be broadcasted live on KOMA-AM (1520) radio station and on the internet at www.SoonerSports.com.

OU enters the game against ISU ranked 19 in the AP and 16 in the USA Today/ESPN coaches' polls while the Cyclones are ranked No. 7 and 6, respectively. The two teams opened league action with road wins on Wednesday night.

SERIES RECORD
Oklahoma sports an all-time series record of 23-12 against Iowa State but the Cyclones have won the last five games against the Sooners. OU's Head Coach Sherri Coale is 0-4 vs. ISU's Bill Fennelly. Iowa State is the only team that Coale has not defeated during her tenure as the Sooners head coach. The last victory that Oklahoma picked up against ISU was an 89-78 decision in Norman in 1996.

UP NEXT
Oklahoma remains at home for its first of two Red River showdowns against the nationally-ranked Texas Longhorns on Wednesday, Jan. 10, at 7 p.m. Fans may stop by any Norman, Moore or Purcell Carl's Jr. location to pick up a coupon good for $3 off an adult admission.

OKLAHOMA (9-3)
The Sooners are on a four-game winning streak and have played its best basketball of the young season in its last two outings. After struggling from the field in the first 10 games, OU shot over 50-percent in its last two games, including a season-high 55.0 percent at Colorado.

OU also sports a flawless 4-0 home record and owns a winning margin of +13.8 ppg inside the Lloyd Noble Center this season.

Oklahoma opened the Big 12 Conference schedule Wednesday with an impressive 89-69 victory over Colorado in Boulder. Even with a season-high 28 turnover, the Sooners were able to invade the Coors Events Center an shoot season-highs of 55.0 percent from the field (33-for-60) and 66.7 percent beyond the arc, nailing six of nine treys. Oklahoma also was able to outrebound a much, much taller team, 46-27. In addition, it marked the first time since Feb. 12, 1992, that three OU players scored 20-plus points in a single game. OU's Caton Hill (Ada, Okla.) led the way with a career-high 25 points followed by LaNeishea Caufield's (Ada, Okla.) season-high 22 and Stacey Dales (Brockville, Ontario) had 20. Against Kansas in 1992, Carin Stites scored 23 points while Angie Guffy had 22 and Mandy Wade added 20 in OU's 88-73 win in Manhattan.

Prior to Colorado, OU ended the 2000 year with a thrilling 102-98 overtime victory over then-17-ranked Stanford in Norman on Dec. 27. Oklahoma not only surpassed the century mark for the second time this year, but OU established season highs in points (102), field goals made (39), attempted (74), three-pointers made (8) and assists (28). Against the Cardinals, six Oklahoma players scored in double figures for the first time since the 1995-96 season. In 1995, six players posted 10 or more points in the Sooners opening game at TCU and seven players recorded double digits two games later vs. North Texas. Hill led all scores with 22 points while junior guards Caufield and Dales added 21 and 15 points, respectively. Sophomore guard Jadrea Seeley (Bethel, Okla.) also tallied 15 points and junior forward Jamie Talbert (Elkhart, Kan.) registered 11 points. Junior center Jen Cunningham (Kingston, Ontario) rounded out the double-digit production with 10 points. As a team, Oklahoma dished out 28 asssits to SU's 11 and outrebounded the Cardinals, 43-38.

The Stanford game was also the second-straight overtime game in which the Sooners have played and consequently won. OU defeated San Diego, 65-63, in double overtime on Dec. 21, in California.

LEADING THE SOONERS
OU is led in scoring by LaNeishea Caufield (Ada, Okla.) , Stacey Dales (Brockville, Ontario) and Caton Hill (Ada, Okla.). Each averages 10-plus points per game for the Sooners. Caufield sports team-highs 16.7 points and 4.3 steals per game. She also leads the league in thefts per game. Dales charts 15.8 points and a team and Big 12 Conference best 8.0 assists per game. Hill ranks third on the team in scoring with 12.4 ppg but leads the Sooners in rebounds with 8.5 boards per game. Jen Cunningham (Kingston, Ontario) ranks second in rebounding with 6.1 and tops the team in blocks with 1.4 stuffs per outing.

The duo of Caufield and Dales, who's often given the assignments of guarding the opponent's top players, rank among in the NCAA best in steals. Dales also ranks among the top 10 in assists within the NCAA.

As a team, OU scores 81.8 points and gets 43.2 rebounds per game compared to its opponents' 71.2 points and 37.0 rebounds.

SHOWTIME
Oklahoma is a perfect 4-0 when playing in televised games this year. OU defeated Tulsa, 80-49, and ORU, 87-56, in the Bertha Teague Classic, followed by SMU, 101-71, and Stanford, 102-98. A year ago, OU was 6-4 in televised games.

IOWA STATE (10-1)
Six Cyclones scored in double-digits, as ISU topped Kansas State (84-58) in Manhattan for the first time since 1998 ... Iowa State shot better from three-point territory (.500) than from the floor (.471) in the game, draining 11 treys ... the Cyclones limited KSU to 31 percent accuracy, including a chilly 19 percent from behind the arc ... Angie Welle posted her sixth double-double of the season with 18 points and 15 rebounds against the Wildcats ... Erica Junod came off the bench to sink 3-of-3 treys en route to 12 points in 17 minutes ... ISU is leading the conference in field goal percentage (.499), three-point percentage (.416), assists (21.09), three-pointers per game (9.45), rebounding defense (30.9) and assist-turnover ratio (1.25).

DALES NEARING 1,000 POINT PLATEAU
Junior guard Stacey Dales (Brockville, Ontario) has scored 190 points this season, pushing her career total to 956, 44 shy of 1,000. Dales opened the season by netting 24 points against Tulsa in the first game of the Bertha Teague Classic in Tulsa.

OU's point guard also has dished out 96 assists, including a career-high 14 against SMU, this season to rank among the NCAA elite in the category. Dales currently ranks second among OU's all-time greats in assists and needs 165 assists to become OU's all-time leader in this category. She has 436 career assists.

She leads the team and Big 12 Conference in assists per game with 8.0. In addition, she ranks second on the team in scoring (15.8 ppg) and is third in rebounding (4.8 rpg).

SUPER SOPHOMORE - CATON HILL
Sophomore Caton Hill (Ada, Okla.) had career highs of 25 points and 15 rebounds at Colorado for her four-straight double double and five overall this year. Hill, a power forward, owns 11 career double doubles.

Hill leads the team in rebounding with 8.5 per game and field goal percentage (.530), of players averaging 20-plus minutes per game. She also ranks third on the team in scoring with 12.4 points per game. Within the Big 12 Conference, Hill appears fifth in rebounding, 10th in field goal percentage and 20th in scoring.

Since Hill's poor showing in both of OU's opening tournaments. She has responded to average 16.3 ppg and 9.9 rpg and has shot 59.8 from the field and 82.4 percent from the foul line over the last eight outings. "I told myself that I would never play like I did in Wisconsin," said Hill following her first double double of the season. "That wasn't me and I'm determined to contribute to this team."

SOONERS AGAINST TOP 25 TEAMS
The Sooners are 4-1 against top 25 opponents at the Lloyd Noble Center over the last two years. The win against Stanford, marked the second time this year that Oklahoma has accomplished the feat after upsetting then-13th-ranked Southwest Missouri State on Dec. 1. Last year, OU defeated Texas Tech (No. 13/13), 82-76, and Kansas (No. 24/25), 88-69, in Norman.

OU's only home loss to a top-25 team was to the 2000 NCAA champions Connecticut, 84-68, on Dec. 29, 2000.

23-AND-COUNTING
Junior guard LaNeishea Caufield (Ada, Okla.) free throw streak ended at 24-straight at Colorado. Caufield established a new school record for most consecutive free throws made with 24-straight.

She has hit 53 of her last 56 attempted free throws (95 percent) and has been perfect at the charity stripe in five different games this season. However, against North Texas (Dec. 18) she did not appear at the charity stripe for only the second time in 74 career games.

CUNNINGHAM HAS BECOME A FACTOR FOR SOONERS
Through the first 12 games, junior Jen Cunningham (Kingston, Ontario, Canada) has emerged as a bright spot for the Sooners. She's appeared in nine of OU's 12 starting lineup and has set or matched career highs in nine of 12 categories, including 15 rebounds at San Diego on Dec. 21. Cunningham contributes 4.8 points, 6.1 rebounds and 1.4 blocks per game plus shots 40.3 percent from the field [25-for-62].

Against San Diego, Cunningham rejected a personal-best five Torores shots to improve her career total to 34. She now ranks 10th on OU's all-time blocked shots list.

SOONERS IN OVERTIME ACTION
Oklahoma has been forced to play back-to-back overtime games against its last two opponents.

The Sooners picked up an 102-98 victory over No. 17 Stanford (Dec. 27) and defeated San Diego, 65-63, in double overtime in California. Never before has OU played two consecutive overtime games. Oklahoma improves its overtime record to 4-9 and double overtime mark to 1-2. The last time the Sooners played an extra five minutes was in 1999 when OU lost to Arkansas, 97-93, in the second round of the WNIT in Fayetteville, Ark. In 1995-96, OU played two extra periods vs. Oklahoma State, losing 79-86 in Norman.

EARLY STEAKS AND TRENDS
Oklahoma takes great pride in its rebounding, however, this year the Sooners have been outrebounded by four opponents, losing two of those four games. A year ago, OU outrebounded 24-of-33 opponents. Of those nine games that the Sooners were out hustled they produced a 3-6 overall record. When collecting more total rebounds than its opponent, OU is 7-1 ... When the Sooners have fewer boards they are 2-2 ... When out working its foes on the defensive end, the Sooners are 9-1 but when they are out hustled they are 0-2 ... OU is also 6-2 when they collect more offensive rebounds.

SUPER SOPHOMORES
Oklahoma's super sophomores Jadrea Seeley (Bethel, Okla.) and Caton Hill (Ada, Okla.) has recently picked up their offensive and defensive production to assist the Sooners. Seeley has scored in double digits six times while Hill has five double double performances to her credit. Hill leads the team in total, offensive and defensive rebounds averaging 8.5 boards per game. She also ranks third on the team in scoring with 12.4 ppg followed by Seeley's 9.3 ppg.

NO CUPCAKES ON THIS TRAY
Saturday's game against Iowa State will mark the six top-25 opponent Oklahoma has played this year. OU is 2-3 against the nation's best teams [Georgia, Wisconsin, SMS, twice, Stanford].

    In the most current WBCA/Summerville RPI ranking Oklahoma sits at No. 18, out of 315, confirming that OU's 2000-2001 schedule is the toughest under current Head Coach Sherri Coale.

    Conference wise, the Big 12 ranks second to the Southeastern Conferenece out of 31 leagues with the hardest slate this season.
