DALLAS - Oklahoma junior Michael Barger was selected as Big 12 Wrestler of the Week as announced by the conference office Tuesday.

Barger, a 174-pounder, is coming off an upset win over top-ranked and previously undefeated Otto Olson of Michigan at the Cliff Keen/NWCA National Duals last weekend. The Sallisaw, Okla., native helped propel Oklahoma to a sixth-place finish.

The Sooners tied Michigan in the fifth-place consolation match at the National Duals in State College, Pa. Barger posted a 3-1 record over the weekend and improved to 20-5 on the season. He has won 13 of his last 14 matches.

For the second straight week, Big 12 Wrestler of the Week honors went to a Sooner. Senior Michael Lightner garnered the award last week after leading OU to a 20-12 victory over Arizona State on Jan.12.

The No. 6 nationally ranked Sooners, 13-3-1 overall, return to the mat against NAIA power Missouri Valley Jan. 24 at the OU Field House. Action begins at 7 p.m. (CST).
