NORMAN, Okla. - The University of Oklahoma men's gymnastics team has been ranked third in the nation by the coaches' poll released by the Collegiate Gymnastics Information Center. The Sooners were ranked as high as second last season before finishing fourth at the NCAA Championships. OU also captured its second-straight Mountain Pacific Sports Federation championship, crowned three conference champions and had five gymnasts earn All-America honors in six events.

"It's nice to be recognized as one of the top teams in the nation by the other coaches around the country," said OU Head Coach Mark Williams. "It's exciting for our team to be considered among the best in the nation, but it remains to be seen if we will live up to those expectations. I believe we will. Our goal every season is to be in contention for the national championship. The way the rules have changed, it's hard to see where anyone will stand."

Michigan sits atop the preseason poll for the second-straight year followed by Ohio State and OU. Defending national champion Penn State is ranked fourth followed by California. Sixth-ranked Iowa, Nebraska, Illinois, Stanford and Michigan State round out the top 10.

This season marks the first of the new scoring changes implemented for men's collegiate gymnastics. The changes were made to bring NCAA scoring criteria more in line with those used in international competitions and should result in a drop in team and individual scores.
