OU Wrestling Releases 2000-2001 Schedule

Norman, Okla. - The University of Oklahoma wrestling team announced its 2000-2001 schedule, which includes six home duals, three more duals in surrounding Oklahoma towns, the Oklahoma Open and the prestigious Cliff Keen/NWCA National Duals.

The Sooners begin their season on Nov. 12 at the Oklahoma Gold Classic in Brockport, N.Y. The squad's first home dual will be on Nov. 21 when it hosts Central Oklahoma at 7 p.m. The 30th annual Oklahoma Open, the Sooners' annual wrestling tournament, will be held Nov. 25. OU hosts three conference opponents, Oklahoma State (Dec. 10), Missouri (Feb. 4) and Nebraska (Feb. 11). Oklahoma travels to the Lone Star Duals on Jan. 6 and the National Duals on Jan. 20-21. The Sooners will also compete at the Big 12 Championships in Stillwater, Okla., on Mar. 3 and at the NCAA Championships March 15-17 in Iowa City, Iowa.

"As always, we have put together a challenging schedule which we believe will prepare us for NCAA competition," said OU Head Coach Jack Spates. "Last year, including the National Duals, we wrestled nine top-10 teams and this year promises to be more of the same. We've also scheduled to bring Sooner wrestling to Oklahoma high schools while providing opportunity for non-starters to see action. We're excited about our squad and are eager to test ourselves against the best."

Last season, OU compiled a 17-4-1 dual record and finished fourth at the NCAA Championships. Six NCAA qualifiers return to the Sooner line-up for the 2000-01 season.
