NORMAN, Okla. - Senior outfielder/pitcher Jeff Bajenaru was named to the Baseball America 2000 All-American team as the third team utility player, as announced by the national publication today. The honor was Bajenaru's sixth All-American distinction of the postseason after being selected as the first team utility player on the American Baseball Coaches Association/Rawlings All-America team last week. The Chino Hills, Calif., native batted .342 with 11 home runs and 58 RBIs, while posting a 2.61 ERA and 20 saves (good for second in the nation).
Bajenaru previously received a first team designation by the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association's (NCBWA) All-America team, as well as a second team All-America selection by Baseball Weekly and The Sporting News as a utility player and a third team All-America selection by Collegiate Baseball as a relief pitcher.
Bajenaru recently signed a professional contract with the Chicago White Sox, who drafted him in the 36th round of the 1999 draft, prior to the 2000 First-Year Player Draft.
