Sooners Complete Series Sweep Of Missouri, 9-4

NORMAN, Okla. - The 24th-ranked Oklahoma Sooner baseball team closed out their 2000 home season at L. Dale Mitchell Park Monday night by completing a three-game sweep of the Missouri Tigers with a 9-4 victory. The sweep was the fourth completed over a conference opponent this season by the Sooners, who improved to 35-18 overall and 18-9 in the Big 12 Conference. The Tigers dropped to 29-21 overall and 10-14 in the league with the loss.

The first five batters in the Oklahoma lineup produced multi-hit efforts led by second baseman Zach Lekse's 3-for-4 performance with two runs scored and one RBI. Rightfielder Jeff Bajenaru also collected three hits, as centerfielder Jerome Godsey, shortstop Tommy Whiteman and first baseman Rick Park added two hits a piece for OU. Oklahoma starting pitcher Logan Cuellar improved his record to 2-1 after working five innings and allowing only four hits and no runs.

Missouri third baseman Landon Brandes led the Tigers' offensive attack for the second-straight game with a 3-for-4 performance, including a run scored and two RBIs. Mitch Kiler (2-2) was charged with the loss for the Tigers after giving up six earned runs over 4.1 innings pitched.

The Sooners now travel to Ames, Iowa, to take on the Iowa State Cyclones this weekend beginning with a 3 p.m. game on Friday afternoon.
