NORMAN, Okla. - The Oklahoma All-Stars wrestling team defeated the Korean University National Team, 23-12, at the OU Field House. Five University of Oklahoma wrestlers claimed victory in the win. The All-Stars were led by Oklahoma assistant Chuck Barbee.
The Oklahomans won the duals first three matches and would go on to win seven of the 10 bouts. OU's Matt Ridings used a five-point throw with five second left in the match for a 9-8 come-from-behind win in the opening match of the dual. Bo Maynes, a 3-0 winner over Na Dae-Young, and former Sooner Alfredo Varela, 5-1 victor against Yeo Wun-Chung, claimed the next two matches for the All-Stars. The Korean team picked-up its first win at 134.2 pounds, where Hwang Sun-Ho defeated Witt Durden, 11-6. Oklahoma's Michael Lightner won 3-1 in overtime at 140.8 pounds and Jared Frayer won by superiority (4:15, 10-0) at 156.2. The Koreans won two of the next three matches. Jung Dae-Lee decisioned Shane Roller, 4-2, and No Hae-Hyoun downed Rowdy Lundegreen. Tyrone Lewis of Oklahoma State won by fall, pinning Cheon Jong-Min in :32. Oklahoma heavyweight Gary Barber won the final match by injury default.
