LUBBOCK, Texas - The Oklahoma Sooners scored three runs in the top of the ninth inning to break a four all tie and defeat the Texas Tech Red Raiders, 7-4, Friday night in front of 4,124 fans at Dan Law Field. Jeff Bajenaru entered the game in the bottom of the ninth to close out the game for OU and pick up his 16th save. Rocky Cherry (6-4) earned the win in relief of starter Evan Greusel as the Sooners improved to 32-16 overall and 15-7 in the Big 12 Conference.

With two outs in the top of the ninth, centerfielder Jerome Godsey (2-for-5) singled to centerfield and stole second. Godsey scored the decisive run when a single by Zach Lekse (2-for-4) advanced him to third base and an interference call on the Texas Tech third baseman awarded Godsey to advance home. Lekse and shortstop Tommy Whiteman (3-for-5), who followed Lekse with another single, scored on a double by first baseman Rick Park (1-for-3).

The top half of the Oklahoma lineup accounted for 10 of the Sooners' 11 hits in the game, including four multi-hit performances. Bajenaru went 2-for-4 at the plate and knocked in OU's first three runs of the game. Whiteman extended his career-high hitting streak to 19 games as the Sooners have now won 10 of their last 11 conference games.

The two teams meet tomorrow at 2 p.m. at Dan Law Field for the second game of the three-game set.
