NORMAN, Okla. - The University of Oklahoma women's tennis team won its third consecutive Big 12 Conference match Sunday by upsetting Nebraska, 5-4, at the Westwood Tennis Courts in Norman. With another victory, the Sooners improve to 10-10 on the season and 3-6 in conference action. Nebraska drops to 18-4 and 6-4. This is the first upset of the season for Oklahoma.
Senior Angela Stroup improves her No. 2 singles record to 11-10 with a 6-3, 6-2 win over Nduli Ijomah of NU. OU Freshmen Annette Bryntesson and Melissa Mendieta picked up wins over Maria Lauren Fernendez, 6-1, 6-4, and Ginn Pelazini, 6-7, 7-5, 6-0, at the No. 4 and 5 singles matches. This left the Sooners 3-3 as they entered doubles competition.
In doubles, OU's No. 1 Mracnova and Stroup upset No. 40 Noetzel/Pelazini an 8-6 victory improving their overall to 14-4. With an overall record of 3-0, Stephanie Sajbert and Bryntesson clinched the win for the Sooners as they defeated Frisch/Stacey Tonkierrez, 8-4.
Oklahoma returns to action on Wednesday at Texas Tech with a 1:30 p.m. match.
