NORMAN, Okla. - The Oklahoma Sooners defeated Kansas State, 11-7, Sunday afternoon to complete the three-game sweep of the Wildcats at L. Dale Mitchell Park. For the second consecutive day, OU won behind a strong starting pitching performance, this time by freshman Austin Mix, who struck out a career-high 11 batters. Oklahoma's conference record improved to 3-0 and 10-5 overall, while Kansas State fell to 3-10 overall and 0-6 in the Big 12.
Eight of the nine hitters in the OU starting lineup collected base hits. First baseman Rick Park picked up his second home run in as many games as part of a 2-for-3 day at the plate with two RBIs. Rightfielder Eliot Joyner matched Park's shot with a solo home run of his own in the seventh inning. Joyner finished the afternoon 3-for-4, while centerfielder Jerome Godsey also added a three-hit effort with two runs scored and two RBIs.
Mix, who bettered his previous career-high in strikeouts of eight (set a week ago), improved his record to 3-1 on the year with the win. The righthander gave up four of his five earned runs on two two-run home runs by KSU shortstop J.D. Loudabarger and designated hitter Travis Andre.
Loudabarger went 3-for-4 with two runs scored and two RBIs for KSU. Starting pitcher Kurt Lehrmann suffered his first loss of the season to even up at 1-1 on the year.
The Sooners return to action on Tuesday at home versus Texas-Arlington at 3 p.m.
