OKLAHOMA CITY, Okla. - The Oklahoma Sooners defeated the 11th-ranked Cal State-Fullerton Titans, 4-3, Tuesday night at the Southwestern Bell Bricktown Ballpark in Oklahoma City as three OU pitchers combined to shutdown the Titan offense on seven hits. OU sophomore Rocky Cherry (3-4) picked up the win in relief of starter Michael Bradbury, while senior Jeff Bajenaru captured his sixth save of the season. The win improved the Sooners' overall record to 17-12 as the loss dropped the Titans to 16-8 on the year.
First baseman Rick Park went 2-for-3 at the plate with two RBIs and scored the winning run for the Sooners in the eighth inning. Centerfielder Jerome Godsey (2-for-3) and Bajenaru (1-for-3) drove in the other two Oklahoma runs on the evening. Shortstop Zach Lekse extended his hitting streak to 10 games with a 2-for-4 effort.
After giving up two runs in the first inning to CSFU on two hits and a walk, Bradbury settled down to allow only two more hits through the next five innings. Bradbury, who pitched a career-high seven innings, was taken out of the game after surrendering the tying run in the seventh inning.
With the game tied at 3-3 heading into the bottom of the eighth inning, Bajenaru doubled home Park from first to score the decisive run for OU. Bajenaru then came on in the top of the ninth to strike out three batters to earn the save.
Titan first baseman Jake Epstein went 1-for-4 at the plate and drove in two of the three CSFU runs in the game. Reliever Sean Martin (1-1) suffered the loss for the Titans.
