NORMAN, Okla. - Oklahoma third baseman Jason Bartlett was perfect at the plate (4-for-4), scored three runs and added four RBIs as the Sooners routed No. 21 Baylor, 12-6, in baseball Sunday afternoon at L. Dale Mitchell Park. OU (16-12, 5-4 Big 12) collected a season-high 18 hits as the Sooners salvaged the final game of the series to avoid a sweep by Baylor (20-9, 7-5 Big 12).
Bartlett, who fell a home run short of hitting for the cycle, led five Sooners who posted multi-hit performances. Leftfielder Chad Cochell contributed a 3-for-4 effort at the plate while driving in a run and shortstop Zach Lekse set a career-high hitting streak by collecting a hit in the last nine games. OU starting pitcher Austin Mix picked up the win to improve to 5-1 on the season.
With OU holding on to a slim 7-6 lead entering the bottom of the seventh inning, the Sooners exploded for the final five runs on eight hits, including seven consecutive. Oklahoma chased Baylor reliever Justin Taylor (2-1) earlier in the fifth inning by breaking a five all tie with two runs to retake the lead for good.
Baylor first baseman Mike Huggins paced the Bears offensively with a 2-for-3 outing, including a two-run home run.
Oklahoma hosts nationally-ranked Cal State-Fullerton Tuesday night at 7 p.m. at the Southwestern Bell Bricktown Ballpark in Oklahoma City.
