NORMAN, Okla. - Five Sooner errors led to six unearned runs for the Thoroughbreds as Murray State upset Oklahoma, 11-6, in baseball Tuesday night at L. Dale Mitchell Park. Murray State capitalized on three Oklahoma errors to break a five all tie and take a commanding 9-5 lead in the seventh inning which it would never relinquish. OU falls to 12-8 overall and 3-0 in the Big 12, while MSU improves to 3-13 on the year.
Leftfielder Sean Murphy, rightfielder Jeff Bajenaru and catcher Josh Witcher each collected two hits a piece on the evening for the Sooners. The trio combined to drive in four of the Sooners' runs in the game. Sophomore Clint Dunbar (0-2) was charged with the loss for OU in relief.
Catcher Nathan Taylor led the way offensively for the Thoroughbreds with a 2-for-5 effort with two runs scored and three RBIs, including a two-run home run. Centerfielder Gamer Byars also collected two hits and added two RBIs on the evening. Chris Gray (1-4) picked up his first win by pitching the final 5.1 innings in relief of starter Preston Hesley.
The two teams conclude the mid-week series tomorrow at 3 p.m. at L. Dale Mitchell Park.
