Whaley Finalist for Kodak All-America Basketball Honors

NORMAN, Okla. -- The Women's Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA), in cooperation with Eastman Kodak Company, announced the finalists Thursday for the 2000 NCAA Division I Kodak Women's All-America Basketball Team, and University of Oklahoma 5-10 senior forward Phylesha Whaley (Slaton, Texas) was one of the 48 finalists named.
Whaley was one of six players named to the Kodak All-District V Team. This is the first such honor of Whaley's career. A total of 10 players are chosen annually for elite Kodak All-America honors.
She currently ranks No. 14 nationally in scoring (20.6 ppg) and also leads the Sooners in rebounding (8.2 ppg), field goal percentage (534), and three point accuracy (.479).
Whaley earlier this month was named to the Women's Basketball News Service All-American first team and Big 12 Conference Player of the Year and All-Big 12 first team selection.
Whaley leads the 23-7 Sooners into the first round of the 2000 NCAA Tournament Saturday, March 18 against Brigham Young (22-8).
The 48 finalists, who are voted upon by WBCA member coaches in each of the eight WBCA geographical districts, are now in the running for selection to the 10-member Kodak All-America Team. Finalists are the following:
