Sooners Fall, 11-5, to No. 15 Arizona State In Baseball

TEMPE, Ariz. - The Oklahoma baseball team dropped the first game of the three-game series to No. 15 Arizona State, 11-5, Friday night at Packard Stadium in Tempe. Three Sun Devil pitchers combined to hold the Sooner offense to a season-low six hits in the game. The loss drops OU to 11-6 overall and 3-0 in the Big 12, while ASU improves to 19-4 overall on the season.

First baseman Rick Park provided the top offensive performance on the night for the Sooners with a 2-for-5, three RBI performance, including a two-run home run in the seventh inning. The home run was Park's fourth round-tripper in the last six games. Designated hitter Jeremy Vidales drove in two more of the Oklahoma runs in the sixth inning with a two out single. Starting pitcher Rocky Cherry (2-2) was charged with the loss for OU after giving up five earned runs over five innings.

Sun Devil catcher Casey Myers hurt the Sooners by blasting two home runs on the evening, including a three-run and a two-run shot, as part of a 3-for-3, three runs scored and five RBI effort. Third baseman Mike Lopez added a third home run for ASU in the eighth inning to tally the final three runs for the Sun Devils. Lopez finished the game 2-for-4 with four RBIs. Arizona State starting pitcher Jon Switzer (5-0) picked up the win, while reliever Eric Doble earned his second save on the year.

The two teams continue the series Saturday and Sunday with 6 p.m. (CST) starts in Tempe.
