NORMAN, Okla. - The fourth-ranked University of Oklahoma wrestling team defeated the Missouri Valley Vikings, the second ranked team in NAIA, 38-3, in front of 338 fans at the OU Field House Wednesday night. Wrestling without six starters in the lineup, the Sooners won nine of 10 matches, including two wins by forfeit and a Robbie Waller pin at 165 pounds. The win moved OU to 15-3-1 on the season. Missouri Valley fell to 4-3.

Heavyweight Gary Barber escaped Al Bilins :16 into the tiebreaker period to win 2-1 and Bo Maynes decisioned Charles Gonzalez, 8-3, at 125 pounds. Missouri Valley forfeited the next two matches, handing victories to Witt Durden (133) and Melvin Lofton (141), who was seeing his first career dual action. The Sooners won by major decision at 149 and 157 pounds, when Jared Frayer defeated NAIA No. 1 Tim Cobb, 12-2, and David Kjeldgaard downed Rafael Maturino, 20-8. Waller won the duals final match, pinning Jason Walls in 2:05.
"Against Missouri Valley I thought we had some real strong points and I also thought we had some down points," said Waller. "Obviously we cant have any down points come Sunday (vs. Oklahoma State)."
"It was a good match," said Frayer. "I felt good going in. My conditioning feels really good. Him (Tim Cobb) being the number one guy in NAIA, I knew it would be a tough match. Just being able to break him after a couple of minutes and really taking my style to him, it payed off and I was able to score and get the major."
Oklahoma will be back on the mat this Sunday, when it hosts Oklahoma State. Action will begin at 3 p.m. in the Lloyd Noble Center. The 1974 National Championship team will also be honored at the match.
