Lafayette, Lous. - No. 25 Louisiana-Lafayette capitalized on several Oklahoma errors to score five straight unearned runs and defeat the Sooners, 8-3, Friday night at Tigue Moore Field in Lafayette, Lous. OU committed two errors, walked two and hit a batter in a four-run fifth inning for the Ragin' Cajuns to surrender the decisive runs in the game. Oklahoma drops to 6-3 on the season, while Louisiana-Lafayette, ranked 25th this week by Baseball America, improves to 9-1.

ULL opened up the game in the fifth inning by sending eight batters to the plate and, due to the Sooner miscues, scored their five runs off only one official at bat. Following the disasterous bottom of the fifth, Oklahoma leftfielder Sean Murphy answered with a home run to lead off the sixth inning to cap a 2-for-4 performance at the plate with two runs scored and a RBI.

OU began the scoring in the second inning when a base hit by Murphy and a passed ball advanced Murphy to second, allowing catcher Eliot Joyner to double him in for the first run of the game and a 1-0 Sooner lead. Oklahoma would hold the lead until the fourth when the Ragin' Cajuns scored three runs to capture a 3-1 advantage. OU then closed the gap at 3-2 in the top of the fifth on a lead-off double by third baseman Jason Bartlett and two fly balls brought him home.

Starter Rocky Cherry (1-1) suffered the loss for OU, while ULL starter Scott Dohmann (4-0) pitched 7.2 innings to pick up the win. Rightfielder Jeff Bajenaru and second baseman Zach Lekse both turned in 2-for-3 efforts at the plate to help lead the offense for OU.

The two teams will face off in game two of the three-game series on Saturday at 1 p.m.
