COLUMBIA, Mo. - The fifth-ranked University of Oklahoma wrestling team defeated Big 12 foe Missouri, 33-3, in front of 693 fans at the Hearnes Center Fieldhouse in Columbia, Mo., Wednesday night. OU's Robbie Waller (165) won by pin and three other Sooners won by major decision. The win moved OU to 16-4-1 on the season. Missouri fell to 10-11.
OU won the dual's first eight matches to put Missouri away early, including three major decisions and a pin in the first four bouts. David Kjeldgaard won by major decision, 14-4, over Jesse Jordan at 157 pounds and Waller pinned Tim Hawks in 2:23. Byron Tucker blanked John Kopnisky, 9-0, at 174 and Tommy Grossman snapped a personal eight-match skid by downing Josh Maze by major decision, 17-7. OU won the next four matches by decision. Missouri's lone victory came at 141 pounds, where Jeremy Spates defeated Melvin Lofton, 7-2. OU's Jared Frayer closed out the scoring by decisioning Jeff Urban, 5-3.
Oklahoma will be back on the mat next Thursday, Feb. 24, when it hosts Michigan State. Action begins at 8 p.m. in the OU Field House.
