OKLAHOMA CITY, Okla. - The University of Texas at Arlington took two out of three matches in doubles action to pull out a 5-4 victory today over the Oklahoma women's tennis team in Oklahoma City at the Santa Fe Club. The loss drops the Sooners to 3-1 on the season while UTA improves to 3-1
The two teams split the singles points. At the number one position, Oklahoma junior Viviana Mracnova defeated Marie Stepanova in straight sets, 6-4, 6-4. Senior Angela Stroup was victorious over Barbara Huijgen, 6-2, 6-2 at the number three position. Fellow senior Kristin Guilford picked up a win against Noline van den Berg, 6-0, 6-4.
In doubles action, the Mavericks were victorious at the number one position while the Sooners picked up a win at the number three position. UTA's number two doubles team of Stepanova and van den Berg beat Oklahoma's Jonie Helleland and Guilford, 8-4, for the deciding point to clinch the victory.
Next up, the Sooners travel to Fort Worth, Texas to battle TCU on Thursday, Feb. 17. Action starts at 2 p.m.
