SERIES RECORD OU vs. Stanford
Stanford leads 1-0

This is just the second game between Oklahoma and Stanford. The Cardinals won the first game, 91-66, in Stanford in 1988. OU is 1-9 against teams from the PAC 10 Conference. This is OU's Head Coach Sherri Coale's first encounter with the Cardinals and SU's ledgenary Tara VanDerveer.

Wednesday's game will mark Stanford's first ever women's basketball game in the state of Oklahoma.

The game is also a homecoming for Stanford senior forward Sarah Dimson, who hails from Norman High and played for OU's Coale through her junior season and won the state championship in 1996.

OKLAHOMA (7-3)
Oklahoma enters the game on a two-game winning streak with recent victories over North Texas, 76-61, and at San Diego, 65-63. It took the Sooners double overtime to defeat the Torores in San Diego on Thursday. OU sports a flawless 3-0 home record and owns a winning margin of +17.3 inside the Lloyd Noble Center this season.

Juniors LaNeishea Caufield (Ada, Okla.) and Stacey Dales (Brockville, Ontario) plus sophomore Caton Hill (Ada, Okla.) average double digits in scoring. Caufield sports a team-best 15.7 points and 4.4 steals, while Dales ranks second with 15.5 points and 4.0 steals per game. Dales leads the team in assists with 8.0 per try. Hill ranks third in team scoring with 10.2 ppg and leads the Sooners in rebounds with 7.7 an outing. Junior center Jen Cunningham (Kingston, Ontario) ranks second in rebounding with 6.3 and tops the team in blocks with 1.5 stuffs per outing.

The duo of Caufield and Dales, who's often given the assignments of guarding the opponent's top players, rank second and 11th in the nation in steals. Dales also ranks fourth in assists within the NCAA.

As a team, OU scores 79.1 points and gets 42.9 rebounds per game compared to its opponents' 68.7 points and 37.9 rebounds.

Oklahoma opened its season with victories over Tulsa, 80-49, and host Oral Roberts, 87-56, at the Bertha Teague Classic in Tulsa, Okla. OU then traveled to Madison, Wis., to compete in the Coaches vs. Cancer Challenge where OU lost to nationally-ranked Georgia, 94-70, and host Wisconsin, 97-77. Dales was named to both all-tournament teams, while teammate Caufield was voted to the all-tournament team and was MVP of the Bertha Teague Classic.

STANFORD (5-3)
After a two-week break for final examinations, the Stanford women's basketball team will be tested on the hardwood with a three-week stretch that includes six consecutive games against teams that reached the postseason a year ago. The Cardinals opened the stretch with road losses to No. 2 Tennessee, 63-58, and Purdue, 90-60, and returns from the holidays with a pair of rugged tests to close out the non-conference portion of their schedule. Following Wedneday's game with the Sooners, SU returns home to host Utah on Dec. 30.

Stanford Head Coach Tara VanDerveer joined an elite and prestigious group on Sunday, Nov. 26, when a 73-65 victory over Pacific made her just the 17th coach in Division I women's basketball history to record 600 career wins. She has led Stanford to two NCAA Championships (1989-90 and 1991-92), five NCAA Final Four appearances and eight Pac-10 titles. She also is one of the most accomplished coaches in international women's basketball history. She led the United States to the gold medal at the 1996 Summer Olympics in Atlanta, and led that National/Olympic Team to a 60-0 cumulative record during its time together in 1995-96. In her seven international assignaments, she has compiled an 88-8 (.917) record and won four gold medals and one bronze.

Prior to last week's tough road campaign, to Tennessee and Purdue, the Cardinals has a perfect 5-0 home record but is winless in three games away from The Farm. Stanford has not opened a campaign with three-straight road losses since 1979-80, and has never lost its first four road games in a season. US has won 16 of its last 17 at Maples dating back to last year.

Three Cardinals average double digits in scoring led by freshman forward Nicole Powell's 12.4 points, followed by junior forward Bethany Donaphin's 11.8 and fresshman guarad Susan King's 11.1 points per game. Powell also leads SU in rebounding with 6.5 boards per game.

A LOOK AHEAD
Wednesday serves as the last non-conference game before the Sooners' open their 2001 Big 12 Conference schedule. OU travels to Boulder, Colo., to face Colorado on Jan. 3, inside the Coors Event Center at 8 p.m. CST.

SOONERS IN OVERTIME ACTION
Last Thursday, San Diego forced Oklahoma to play its third double overtime game in school history. The Sooners also picked up their first ever victory (1-2) in a double overtime game with a 65-63 win over the Torores. In overtime games, OU is 3-9.

SHOOTING WOES
Oklahoma has not had an impressive performance from the field, including from the arc, in several games. OU has shot below 50 percent in six games this season, losing three of those games. From beyond the arc, OU's shooting woes are even worst as the Sooners have only been able to hit 40 percent once (against SMU, 5-for-12).

EARLY STEAKS AND TRENDS
Oklahoma takes great pride in its rebounding, however, this year the Sooners have already been outrebounded by four opponents, losing two of those four games. A year ago, OU outrebounded 24-of-33 opponents. Of those nine games that the Sooners were out hustled they produced a 3-6 overall record. When collecting more total rebounds than its opponent, OU is 5-1 ... When the Sooners has fewer boards they are 2-2 ... When out working its foe on the defensive end, the Sooners are 7-1 but when they are out hustled they are 0-2 ... OU is also 5-2 when they collect more offensive rebounds.

SOONER BENCH
Through the first 10 games, the Oklahoma bench players have contributed the following statistics: 28.6 percent of the points (286 of 791), 26.3 percent of the individual rebounds (113 of 429), 20.2 percent of the assists (37 of 183), and 19.7 percent of the steals (27 of 137). The most active of the bench include 6-2 junior Jamie Talbert (6.4 ppg, 3.3 rpg, 13.3 minutes per game and 46.7 field goal percentage) and 5-9 junior Rosalind Ross (7.4 ppg, 2.5 rpg, 15 assists, 20.9 minutes per game and 40.7 field goal percentage). Both players were junior college All-Americans a year ago.

CUNNINGHAM'S EMERGENCE
Junior Jen Cunningham (Kingston, Ontario, Canada) has earned a starting spot in seven of OU's first 10 games. The 6-3 center biggest contribution has been her ability to block shots. Cunningham has 15 blocked shots, which ranks fourth in the league. She also contributes 4.6 points and 6.3 rebounds per game.

Against San Diego, Cunningham rejected a personal-best five Torores shots to improve her career total to 34. She now ranks 10th on OU's all-time blocked shots list.

17-AND-COUNTING
Junior guard LaNeishea Caufield (Ada, Okla.) has hit 17-straight free throws entering Wednesday's game against Stanford. Caufield was 10-for-10 at the stripe against Southwest Missouri State and nailed all seven shots at the foul line against San Diego on Thursday.

However, against North Texas she did not appear at the charity stripe for only the second time in 72 career games.

She has hit 41 of her last 43 attempted free throws (95.3 percent) and has been perfect at the charity stripe in four different games (10-for-10 at Southwest Missouri State, 8-for-8 vs. Wisconsin, 7-for-7 at San Diego and 5-5 vs. Arkansas-Little Rock) this season.

SUPER SOPHOMORES
Oklahoma's super sophomores Jadrea Seeley (Bethel, Okla.) and Caton Hill (Ada, Okla.) has recently picked up their offensive and defensive production to assist the Sooners. Seeley has scored in double digits five times while Hill has three double double performances to her credit. Hill leads the team in total, offensive and defensive rebounds averaging 7.7 boards per game. She also ranks third on the team in scoring with 10.2 ppg followed by Seeley's 8.8 ppg. Since Hill's poor showing in both of OU's opening tournaments, the power forward has responded to average 13.8 ppg and 9.0 rpg and has shot 58.1 from the field over the last six outings.
