OU Women's Basketball Ranked 14th And 17th In Top Preseason Polls

NORMAN, Okla. - The University of Oklahoma women's basketball team has been ranked 14th in the Associated Press and 17th in the USA Today/ESPN/Coaches Top 25 preseason polls released today by the national organizations. OU is coming off of its most successful season in school history with a school-record 25 victories (25-8), a share of the Big 12 Conference regular season title (13-3) and an appearance in the NCAA Sweet 16.

The Sooners have been ranked among the nation's elite in nearly every preseason poll, including No. 14 in the Athlon's Sports Magazine and Basketball News Report, plus 15th in the Street & Smith Magazine.

OU returns 73.7 percent of its points and 79.6 percent of its rebounds from a year ago. In addition, Head Coach Sherri Coale and staff returns four starters, including third team preseason All-American LaNeishea Caufield and preseason All-Big 12 selection Stacey Dales, and adds a pair of junior college All-American to this year's roster.

The Sooners open the 2000-2001 regular season at the Bertha Teague Classic in Tulsa (Nov. 17-18), followed by the elite Coaches vs. Cancer Challenge in Madison, Wis. (Nov. 22-24). OU will host Australia in its last exhibition game on Friday, Nov. 10, at 7 p.m. at Lloyd Noble Center.
