OU Wrestlers Down Central Oklahoma, 39-3

NORMAN, Okla. - Oklahoma Sooner wrestling team won its first dual of the season in convincing fashion, downing the Central Oklahoma Bronchos, 39-3. OU claimed nine of 10 matches, including pins by Michael Barger at 174 pounds and heavyweight Leonce Crump.

Barger gave the Sooners an early lead by pinning UCO's Dennis Parker in 3:47. The Bronchos bounced back with their only win of the dual, a Muhammed Lawal upset win of Josh Lambrecht at 184 pounds. Waymon May (197) followed with an 11-3 major decision against UCO's T.J. Tallent and Crump pinned Jeremy McCoy in 1:19.

Matt Ridings survived a late rally from defending Division II champion Mark Dodgen for a 6-5 victory at 125 and Witt Durden decisioned Cole Province, 7-5. OU won by bonus points in each of its last four matches. Michael Lightner majored Joe Schneider, 18-5, to win his 116th career match, the fifth best total in Sooner history. Jared Frayer won by technical fall at 149 pound and Mark Worthy recorded a major decision at 157. Robbie Waller rounded out the scoring with a 10-1 major decision at 165 pounds.

The Sooners will be back in action on Saturday, Nov. 25, at the Lloyd Noble Center when they host the Oklahoma Open.
